Cleaning Up Old Policies: When “No” Isn’t an Option


Week after week of being in this industry, I remain surprised by how many unique scenarios I encounter.


The newest opportunity for service happened today, Friday, March 20th.


I must admit, the description of the opportunity was bleak; on a day where weather was a torrential downpour, I almost let the dreariness answer for me and decline to become involved.


The advice given decades ago concerning a policy loan has aged into a serious problem.


As they receive their statements, they are unsure if the loan is being repaid.


Their previous advisor, retired.


As I service these long-standing clients whose advisor has retired, I discover the policy owner's memory of the contract has faded. Usually the joy they feel after I describe the features of their forgotten asset is very uplifting.


This is the reason, aside from doing the right thing, that I continue to say “yes” when I am asked to become involved.


Our time with our new, and the insurance companies' existing clients, is about to begin.


The insurance company only knows them as a number and we are privileged to develop a new relationship.


As we enter tax filing season, a great opportunity occurs to plan 2026 in a different way than 2025 so that you have a different tax outcome next year.
